Eugenius!, filmed at The Other Palace Review

You asked so I deliver...

In these bonkers times, reviews are going to be interesting for a while - and with a lot of streamed content. One of the first things to get the streaming treatment was the filmed performance of Eugenius! during its 2nd run at The Other Palace.
I mentioned it already during my Stagey in Self-Isolation guide but I wanted to do a bit of a review in more detail.

This crazy British musical became a bit of a cult hit during its run, and also hit controversy when one of its investors pulled out, pulling the plug on its planned West End transfer. Fingers crossed it gets it once all this is over...

Written by A1's Ben Adams, along with Chris Wilkins and produced by Warwick Davis no less, Eugenius! follows teenage G.E.E.K Eugene who's life is turned upside down when his very own comic Tough Man is picked up by a Hollywood producer and turned into a big blockbuster film! As it goes on, we see threats from not just the bureaucracy of the film industry, but also from the outer galaxies....

As you can imagine, it's pure and utter 80s geek-culture camp.... It was nuts.... and I loved it..!!!

The cast was lead by the adorable Rob Houchen (City of Angels, Les Mis), who you fell in love with as Eugene just like his character in The Light in the Piazza. His chemistry with his best friend Janey, played by Laura Baldwin (Waitress) was very believable, and rounding out the nerdy trio was funny man Dan Buckley as Feris.

The main trio aren't the only gems in this cast though. Funny man Scott Paige (The Addams Family) is laugh-every-second as the camp assistant to Lex (played by Alex Bourne (Annie)); Emily Tierney (Wicked) is almost unrecognisable as she moulded into the character of Super-Hot Lady (yes that is an actual character, I am not making that up); and don't forget Neil McDermott's (The Wind in the Willows) childish Evil Lord Hector.

Oh and to top it all off, Brian Blessed's boom is the Narrator and Mark Hamill voices a robot....!!!
I mean COME ON!!!!

I don't want to go much more into it as this is something you can stream easily from home; but I will say that if you want something fun, camp and nerdy then this is right up you're street.

Don't question what you're watching. Don't question any of it. It's Eugenius; enjoy the ride.

Also, when you've watched it, be sure to make a donation for Acting For Others, which is why they're streaming the show now. It has already raised over £11,000
